There’s still time left for a summer road trip. Some great destinations are less than a three-hour drive away. Whether you enjoy the beach, site-seeing or little historical towns, there’s a place for everyone. What’s tops on your list?
Ocean City, MD (131 miles)
Ocean City is a popular summer destination with 10 miles of surf, sand, and the sun. Enjoy the family-friendly lifeguarded beach, take in a round of miniature golf or stroll the boardwalk for food, shopping or people watching. Rides abound the end of the boardwalk; you won’t want to miss this fun for both kids and adults. Consider booking a night’s stay at one of the many hotels and make a weekend of it.
Atlantic City, NJ (164 miles)
Can’t make it to Las Vegas? Atlantic City is a hop, skip and a jump for those loving the Vegas nightlife but within driving distance. With tons of casinos and beautiful hotels, there’s a lot to do and see in the summer as well as the off months. The Jersey Shore is a family friendly beach complete with a boardwalk for food and shopping.
Hershey, PA (111 miles)
Hersheypark is an amusement park the whole family will love. With six different height categories, Hersheypark makes it easy for you to determine what ride is safe for your child. They have everything from kiddie rides to family rides to adventurous roller coasters. Hersheypark is the central park, but they also have a waterpark known as The Boardwalk. Chocolate lovers won’t want to miss Hershey’s Chocolate World and ZooAmerica is an 11-acre zoo that hosts over 200 animals.
St. Michaels, MD (74 miles)
Voted one of the Top 10 Best Small Coastal Towns in America by USA Today, St. Michaels is a quaint, little town a little over an hour drive. Popular for outdoor activities, you will enjoy golfing, bicycling, sailing and kayaking. For some of the best seafood around, try one of the local waterfront restaurants. Free summer concert series is every Thursday evening and is a popular event.
Luray, VA (112 miles)
Located in the Shenandoah Valley, Luray Caverns is the largest caverns in Eastern America. Ten story high stone formations and natural wonders are abundant throughout the caverns and are the main attraction. Other attractions include the Luray Valley Museum, Toy Town Junction, Gem Sluice and The Garden Maze.
Front Royal, VA (89 miles)
Skyline Drive is a scenic road that runs 109 miles, the entire length of the Shenandoah National Park. The closest entry point to Laurel is at Front Royal, VA. Enjoyable year-round, the most favorite time is fall when the leaves are changing colors. There’s more to do than just drive, enjoy numerous outdoor activities depending on a season like hiking, canoeing, rafting, skiing and golf.
