2017 Nissan Maxima Review
The 2017 Nissan Maxima is what Nissan calls a ‘4-Door Sports Car’ and we agree. Nissan’s flagship sedan is stylish, fun to drive and refined, more than your typical family sedan. Well equipped and reasonably priced, you’ll want to schedule a test drive.
New for 2017
Hot off a full redesign last year, the 2017 Nissan Maxima receives minimal changes. Apple CarPlay integration is now standard on all Maxima’s which will make many Apple users happy. Two new packages are also added for 2017. The Dynamic package adds 18” multi-spoke alloy wheels, rocker panel moldings, illuminated kick plates, and a premium spoiler. The Medallion package is available on the Platinum model only and includes 18” multi-spoke alloy wheels, premium spoiler, illuminated kick plate, external ground lighting and interior accent lighting.
Nissan knows that safety is your number one concern. Standard safety features on the 2017 Nissan Maxima include antilock brakes, traction and stability control, Nissan Advanced Air Bag system and a rearview camera. SL models and above have blind spot monitoring, rear cross traffic alert and forward collision warning and mitigation system with automatic braking. The Platinum model has some additional enhanced safety features such as a 360-degree camera with a detection system that alerts when even small objects are moving around the vehicle and driver drowsiness monitor.
The interior of the 2017 Nissan Maxima is spacious and roomy. The soft touch surfaces, high-quality materials, and diamond pattern accent trim give the Maxima an upscale luxury-class feel. The user-friendly 8-inch infotainment system is the center of attention and adds to the modern elegance. The infotainment system includes navigation, eight-speaker AM/FM/CD audio system, USB and auxiliary ports, SiriusXM and HD Radio, Bluetooth connectivity and Apple CarPlay. Other standard features include power front seats, dual-zone automatic climate control, and push-button ignition.
The exterior of the 2017 Nissan Maxima is sleek and stylish. Commanding the front end is Nissan’s innovative V-Motion grille flanked by halogen Smart Auto headlights, LED daytime running lights and fog lamps. Sculpted sides and clean lines lead to the rear of the car which features LED taillights and dual chrome exhausts. 18-inch alloy wheels are standard. Upgraded available features include parking sensors, panoramic sunroof, and rain sensing wipers.
Under the Hood
A 300-horsepower, 3.5-liter V6 engine is the only engine available on the 2017 Nissan Maxima. It is paired with a Xtronic continuously variable automatic transmission. This powertrain delivers smooth and quiet power while maintaining adequate fuel economy. A Sports mode gives high-performance feel by adjusting throttle response, steering effort and transmission tuning. Premium unleaded gas is recommended for the Maxima and EPA ratings are 21 mpg city, 30 highway.
